INDONESIA
A 6.4M earthquake in Aceh on 7 December resulted in 101 deaths, 670 injuries and displaced more than 83,000 people. This figure includes those who prefer to stay outside their homes due to aftershocks. Nearly 3,000 homes were heavily damaged. A two-week emergency response phase has been declared. A robust Government-led response is underway, supported by in-country HCT members and other partners. The Government does not see a need for international assistance at this time.

SOLOMON ISLANDS
On 9 December a 7.8M earthquake struck the Solomon Islands, affecting Makira, Small Malaita and Guadalcanal. A tsunami warning was issued but has since been lifted. Some 6,900 people were affected by the earthquake that destroyed 191 houses, and damaged schools and health clinics. The Government is leading the response through the National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC). The national health, WASH, protection and nutrition clusters have been activated.

PHILIPPINES
As of 8 December, 3,500 families are displaced in Dipolog City and Polanco town in Region IX, due to flash floods. All families are currently staying in 25 evacuation centres. The Government has distributed food packs to affected families.
MYANMAR
An estimated 30,000 people, mainly Muslims, have been displaced and thousands more affected in the northern part of Rakhine State as a result of the 9 October attacks and subsequent security operations which are still underway. Some limited pre-existing humanitarian services have resumed; however, out of more than 150,000 people who were receiving food, cash and nutrition assistance before 9 October, only about 20,000 people have so far received assistance. UN staff joined a Government-led mission to get an initial overview of the situation and participated in a limited distribution of aid to a number of villages.
BANGLADESH
As of 11 December, the number of new Rohingya arrivals who have crossed from Rakhine, Myanmar into Cox’s Bazaar, Bangladesh in the last two months is estimated to be 27,000.
New arrivals are primarily staying in makeshift camps and host communities, putting additional strain on limited resources. Humanitarian agencies on the ground identified protection, food security, nutrition, water and sanitation and health care to be priority needs.

INDIA
Cyclone Vardah is expected to make landfall between northern Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh states on 12 December. The category 1 cyclone is predicted to weaken before hitting India. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are pre-positioned.
